Every piece is made by hand. Whether crafted with a manual knitting machine or hand-finished seams and loose ends, all pieces are proof of their authenticity and the number of hands they pass through. You can read more about our production process
here. Each product requires TLC as do we. By following our advice, you can treasure your By Way of People piece for as long as possible.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Pilling can occur in areas prone to friction, like the shoulders or the sides. Be cautious if wearing a heavy canvas backpack or a tote. Be extra cautious with the Renaissance Sweater which has a lot of delicate buttons and buttonholes.
WASHING
Overwashing is damaging both for your knitted item and the environment. Cashmere fibers prefer hand-washing or a cold (20C) delicate cycle with zero to little tumble to avoid agitating the yarn. Regardless of the fiber, you can hand-wash pieces in cold water with a mild detergent or human shampoo. If you have a few stains, treat the affected areas without having to wash the entire garment. The beauty of a modular design is that detaching parts makes it easy to hand-wash and doesn't feel like a fussy task.
DRYING
Dry flat with or without a towel on a drying rack or flat surface, depending on whether you have access to a steamer.
HOW TO STORE
Did you know that back in the day, you would fend off moths by storing precious items in numerous newspapers? Store your folded items in a newspaper. Alternatively, keep them in bags with some lavender balls.
