Interchangeable knitwear to accommodate the abrupt and spontaneous changes in people's lives. Fewer decisions mean more choices — by way of people.
PRODUCTION PROCESS

MATERIAL
We source our materials with our nearby suppliers in Tuscany and Italy. More recently, we have prioritized suppliers, such as Filmar and Papi Fabio, that can provide full traceability of the fibers from raw material to final product. Traceability aside, we only use natural, virgin materials and recycled natural fibers. Our pieces are already complex, and it is important to use rich materials that stand the test of time. Additionally, we are always test-driving the final product reaction to everyday wear and tear.

DATA-DRIVEN
We love asking questions and interacting with our crowd in person or through social media polls. By listening to client responses and customer feedback, we create an opportunity to design for a better future.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Waste is a design flaw. Before starting By Way of People, the founder promised herself that she would rethink and test-drive every product before it was released. To throw another challenge into the mix, she maniacally studies everyday pieces and figures out how to make them multifunctional, convertible, modular, or whatever you'd like to call it. Designing with detachability in mind makes it easy to alter the garment to suit changing needs and tastes over time. The pieces become more treasurable by creating different ways to wear them in one.

DESIGN FOR DISASSEMBLY
All the accessories and parts used in our products are chosen to facilitate future changes and dismantlement. For example, we use non-dyed corozo nuts as a neutral design solution to avoid unused dyed batches. We avoid zippers, plastic fastenings, and anything detrimental to the planet. Knitwear in itself can be unraveled and used again.
KNITTING NETWORK
We stepped away from traditional production with big lead times and big minimums. Instead, we decided to support an abandoned societal gap - a network of women sitting at home with phenomenal handicraft skills. All the garments are either made by hand or on manual knitting machines like the Brother model in the photos. Eventually, when we have a big space, we dream of investing in our employees by expanding or properly teaching them the skills.

So, if you're considering supporting our small brand, please don't let the prices be off-putting. Each sale promises our female collective a fair wage while allowing us to run independently and, of course, pushing us to make more environmental and social impact.

MADE TO ORDER
All orders are made as they are received so we can gauge the demand for an item and avoid collection waste. In certain cases, we have limited batches ready to ship. To us, this feels like a more romantic approach to clothes making.

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS
We love knitwear for two reasons. If done correctly, no yarn is left behind during the production process. Any leftover samples can be unraveled and made into something completely new.

Take that love and multiply it by our penchant for quality. We grew tired of seeing synthetic fibers in many of the products on the market. Not only do those little microfibers end up in our waterways, but they are also more susceptible to pilling. We're still learning as we continue to grow, but we can promise that we will never prioritize profit over quality.
